The GED is a high school equivalency test. It stands for “General Educational Development”, though is often referred to as a “General Education Diploma” in common parlance. The GED is counted as an equivalency for high school knowledge throughout North America and in many other parts of the world. That being said, not just anyone can sign up for a GED test. In order to take the GED, you must meet several requirements. The first requirement is that you be at least 19 years old. If you are younger, you are considered to be young enough to attend high school proper. You must have been out of school for at least 1 year. The final requirement is that you must have not completed a high school degree. The actual GED test is taken in specific mandatory locations. The test sections will add up to over 7 hours of testing. For that reason and the need for breaks, distribution and collection of the tests and other disturbances, the test is usually a two day affair. The GED consists of five sections:

Science: This is a large multiple choice section containing various scientific questions.

Mathematics: This section is broken into two parts. The first part will allow you to use a GED approved calculator for answering questions. The second part will not allow any use of a calculator.

Language 1 - Writing: The writing section contains two sections. The first section is used to test your knowledge of written English and to correct incorrect written statements. The second portion is an essay portion. The Essay portion is very important, and if failed, will fail the entire section.

Language 2 - Literature/Reading: In this section, students will have to read statements and stories, and then answer questions based on the information they have taken in.

Social Studies: The Social Studies section ask you questions based on the various social science subjects. This section will contain History, Economics and Geography.
